Sr. Product Designer

Sr. Product Designer

What we do?

p0 is a first-in-class security tool which enables large enterprises to document and find every single API and backdoor in their codebase.

The problem is challenging from both a product & technical perspective.

What we value?

  1. Clear communication: We want to optimize for speed and autonomy so being able to articulate your thoughts well is a must.

  2. Transparency: We believe in an open/transparent culture and are happy to share the early work we’ve done to build conviction in this business.

  3. Detail Oriented: You care about the little things when it comes to shipping product.

  4. Ownership: You want to build something cool and own it.

  5. Curiosity: This is an unbounded problem with room to experiment.

  6. Earnestness: We don’t have all the answers as founders. We need people who will break problems apart.

  7. Risk appetite: We're a super early-stage startup and there's some degree of risk associated. You should be comfortable in dealing with ambiguity.

How we hire?

Candidate experience and transparency are central to everything that we do and we will never compromise on that.

We will discuss the comp. and benefits before so you know what’s in it for you and you are clear if it is worth investing time with us or not. We will not tell you to sacrifice your work-life balance and financial stability hiding under the label of “early stage start up”.

Trust is a two-way street and we live and die by that. We expect the same level of transparency & ownership from you. You'll come with a "get shit done" mindset and ready to go through peaks and troughs - as there will be things that we will have to fix together and a risk that you need to sign up for.

Your ownership to fix things and being vocal about what needs to be improved will be instrumental in setting up the foundations of the organisation.

Mediocre teams don’t build great products and we will not settle for average.

Our interview principle

Our interview process is designed to value your time and also optimised to ensure we bring the best talent.

To ensure there's no bad surprises for you, here's what you can expect from us during the interview process:

1. Clear communication

2. 100% transparency

3. For all the roles, we will never have less than 3 and more than 4 rounds.

4. Comp. & benefits discussed before you move into the process

About the role

What type of designer we’re looking for?
Non-negotiables:
TL;DR:

Someone who can distill business requirements, run design sprints, and communicate effectively. MUST have experience with design systems, product documentation, and be involved in quality assurance to ensure accurate design implementation.

Non-negotiables:
Non-negotiables:
  1. Understand / question business logic / critical thinking: The person should be able to understand and breakdown business requirements easily (from PRDs or high-level conversations) into detailed tasks. They should be able to ask the right questions about the problem statement, business logic, and possible solutions and not take the PRD on its face value. They should also be able to fill in the gaps whenever required by gathering information either by research or collaborating with other team members/stakeholders.

  2. Run design sprints: The person should be able to distill requirements into high-level and detailed task list, and run the design sprint on their own without much supervision. This includes gathering necessary key insights from product owners, backend / frontend engineers and users (when required).

  3. Great at communication: Design is an important function at p0. It mediates between product/business team, backend team, frontend team, and more importantly our customers. You should be able to communicate ideas in simplest form. Person should be able to articulate their design decisions and artefacts and if need be defend them with rationale.

  4. Good listeners: Open to design criticism. Strong thoughts, loosely held. The person should be open to re-evaluate their design ideas even they’re absolutely sure of their choices/rationale.

  5. User centric: The person shouldn’t hesitate going out in the field and gather useful data that informs design. They should be able to defend product or design decisions based on field research i.e. empathising and quoting user feedback in design decisions or product requirements.

  6. Basic design system experience: Even though we’re a young company, we’ve optimized to work with components in Figma and FE from day 1. This has enabled us to ship feature very quickly and iterate faster. The person is required to have basic knowledge of design systems, how to create one, and how to work with them in their design sprints.

  7. Expert in tooling (Visual basics & Figma): Must have basics nailed like importance of padding, typography, responsiveness, spacing, page layout, auto-layout/stacking, dev handoff, etc.

  8. Have written product behaviour docs for dev handoff: We’re a tight-nit team of 2 Front-end engineers and 1 designer as of now and we ship fast (almost 1 big feature every 2 weeks). The person should have experience drafting documentation detailing how a product or feature should behave ensuring FE team has all the context during implementing the feature. This includes user flows, interactions, responsiveness, and potential edge cases.

  9. QA experience: Quality assurance of the product is often seen as a developer-centric role. But at p0, we expect everyone to participate in bug bashes. This means the person will be responsible to ensure what’s being implemented in frontend is as per their designs and follows the right UX workflow as intended.

Nice to have:
Nice to have:
